To wrap up a huge year for women in sport, Minerva athletes, mentors and some of our male champions and sporting leaders were kindly hosted by Aurecon at their award-winning Bowen Hills office on Thursday 8 December.

The evening included an engaging taster workshop to Aurecon’s “Design Thinking” toolkit: a human centred approach, and a disciplined methodology, to work through solving problems that have too many unresolved issues, too many stakeholders or too many unknowns.

It was the perfect setting to also celebrate and enjoy the unique stories of women in sport, featuring Bonnie Hancock who broke 4 world records in her recently completed quest of circumnavigating Australia by surf ski.  Interviewed by Minerva QLD Chapter Lead Dr. Sarah Kelly OAM who said, "you could hear a pin drop as Bonnie recounted her colourful experience of Aussie sunsets, freak waves, croc and shark encounters, the enjoyment of pushing through extreme challenges and helping a cause. Her story resonates for us all, carrying learnings of mindset, goal setting, growth through pushing through our comfort zone, teamwork, humour, rituals and being fearless".

Minerva Chairman & Co-Founder Christine McLoughlin AM was also in attendance for a panel discussion on why leveraging the opportunities for women in sport is so important to Queensland and nationwide.  Minerva athletes Janine Watson PLY and Jess Muir were joined by business and sporting leaders Eugenie Buckley and Rohan Sawyer and the four panellists were asked "if womens sport was a billboard?" responding with: "limitless", "empowered", "change your perspective" and "time to invest".

Reflecting on the event, QAS and Minerva Athlete Jess Muir commented, "as a young, emerging athlete who is passionate about the development of women in sport, it is a privilege to know that there is so much support driving this movement in our country".

Thanks to Bill Cox, Evelyn Storey and Matthew Roskam @ Aurecon for hosting and our guest speakers.

"I feel truly grateful to be in such an empowering network of women and every time I leave a Minerva event I feel full of hope for both my generation and the young women of the future". Bonnie Hancock, World Record Holder
