Sarah Larcombe

Sarah Larcombe is a right leg below knee amputee and Australia’s first Sport Climbing World Cup medallist.

After only beginning her competitive climbing career in 2020, through hard work and determination she has quickly become one of Australia and the world’s top paraclimbing athletes. In her first international competition season in 2022, Sarah won gold at her first World Cup in Salt Lake City (US), and followed that up with silver medals at the World Cups in Innsbruck (AUT) and Villars (SUI).

Having undergone an amputation at approximately nine months of age due to congenital limb differences, Sarah grew up participating in para-sports programs and was successful in competitive para-swimming, also dabbling in athletics, karate, and netball. As a lover of the outdoors, she eventually found her way to rock climbing, and has set herself big goals for both competitive and outdoor climbing.

Sarah is also a Board Member of Adaptive Climbing Victoria – a volunteer-run group dedicated to creating opportunities for and supporting people with disabilities in climbing. She hopes that through building her own climbing skills and experiences that she can open the door for others, making both indoor and outdoor climbing more inclusive and accessible, and building the sport of paraclimbing in Australia.

Outside of climbing, Sarah also holds a PhD in Microbiology and works in medical research.
