Sarah Hawe

Sarah grew up in Melbourne and after a short exposure to rowing made her first Australian team - the Australian Junior Team in 2005.  It was another 12 years later that she made her first senior Australian Rowing Team.  During this 12 year hiatus, she completed a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at The University of Melbourne and graduated as dux of her class.  She then moved to Hobart, Tasmania to pursue both her veterinary career and rowing simultaneously.  Working full time in a mixed veterinary practice meant many weeknights and weekends on call where she used to take the practice phone in the rowing boat and often have to stop mid session to answer a call from a client!  Needless to say this was not conducive to a productive training program and she transitioned to part time small animal work.

2017 was her breakthrough year when she performed well at the selection events and was selected as part of the Australian Women’s Coxless Four that later became World Champions in Sarasota, Florida.  She continued to be selected into the same event and in 2018 became a silver medallist at the World Championships and again World Champion in 2019.  In 2021 she represented Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the Women’s Eight.

After completing a Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care in 2021,  Sarah is currently working at a small animal clinic in the northern suburbs of Hobart.  She still has the desire to keep rowing and will push towards Paris 2024.
