Sammy is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, but also a recent implant into Sydney, where she intends to live for at least the following year as she aspires to make the Australian National Women's Rowing Team.
Although Sammy is half Australian on her father's side, she was raised in Hong Kong where she was a devoted swimmer, ultimately committing to compete at the Division 1 level in the US. After 2 years of swimming at the NCAA collegiate level, Sammy made the decision to change to rowing and has seen great success since. She finished up her last two years of NCAA eligibility (in rowing) at the University of Pennsylvania where she sat in the 1st varsity 8 boat for two seasons. Sammy earned the accolades of All-Ivy and All-American in her two seasons of rowing, and was also selected to the Australian National U23 team in the summer of 2022. She competed at the U23 World Rowing Championships in July 2022, where Sammy and her crew-mates won gold and set a world's best time in the coxed four category.
On the other hand, Sammy graduated from UPenn with a degree in molecular biology and was also accepted to Cambridge University to complete a masters in bioscience enterprise. She decided to pursue rowing rather than a masters this year, however plans on eventually making it to Cambridge to complete the degree.
As such, Sammy is professionally interested in the sectors of life-science consulting and in the commercialisation of genetic and biological technology and advancement. Sammy believes that she has lived an exciting, dynamic life thus far and is very eager to see how that will continue and where it will take her.
