Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC is the 28th Governor-General of Australia and Minerva's inaugural Patron.
The Governor-General has a long history of executive and governance roles across business, sport, climate change, the arts, policy, and NFP sectors. She has previously served as the Chair of Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce and served on a wide portfolio of boards including Mirvac, Climate Change Authority and Beyond Blue. For many years she has been a member of the Australian Faculty of Cambridge University’s Business Sustainability Leadership Program; and was a commissioner with the UN Global Business and Sustainable Development Commission.
Ms Mostyn was awarded the Order of Australia in 2021 for distinguished service to business and sustainability, and to the community, through seminal contributions to a range of organisations, and to women. In 2018 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by ANU in recognition of her work as a pioneer of gender inclusion and equity, and leadership in sustainability and climate change.
In 2005 Ms Mostyn was the first woman to be appointed to the AFL Commission where she was an advocate for the inclusion of women at all levels of the game, and a strong voice for the creation of the AFL Women’s league.
She is a strong supporter of women in sport, and was an advocate for the creation of the AFL Women's league as well as a co-founder of Minerva Network.
