Halley Derera

Halley Derera plays both 7s and 15s rugby union. Currently, she is in her second season at the ACT Brumbies competing in the national Super W competition. Growing up in Melbourne, Halley learnt to play with the Melbourne University AON Uni7s team at age 20. She has a background in netball and athletics.

In 2020, Halley graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics and International Studies. After having spent her final year of university in lockdown, she moved to Canberra at the start of 2021 to begin a graduate position at the Australian Department of Health. After a breakthrough 7s season, Halley joined the Brumbies and debuted on the wing against her hometown, the Melbourne Rebels.

A policy officer in the Office for Sport, Halley balances her playing career with a career in government. Outside of this, she is a passionate advocate for women in sport and its positive social impacts.
