Ellie Brush

Ellie Brush is currently an AFLW player for the GWS Giants and a W-League player for Sydney FC. With a long career playing at the highest level in football (soccer), she has two caps for the Australian national team, the Matildas. She has two caps for the Australian national soccer team, the Matildas, making her international debut in a friendly against Italy in 2009. She achieved her second cap with the Matildas in 2012 in an international friendly match against New Zealand in Wollongong.Ellie was the inaugural captain of Canberra United and led the team to two Premierships (2011-12, 2013-14) and two Championships (2011-12, 2013-14). She also played professionally overseas- for the Norwegian team Avaldsnes IL for the 2013 season and the Houston Dash of the USA's National Women's Soccer League in 2015 -winning the club's Defender of the Year award- and in 2016. Ellie was selected after her successful 2015 season for The Matildas who were due to tour USA that year, but the tour never went ahead due to the Matildas striking over pay disputes with FFA.After returning to Canberra Untied, Ellie achieved 100 W-League appearances. Whilst still playing for Canberra, Ellie joined the GWS Giants as a Rookie and played 6 of the 7 games in the inaugural AFL season (missing round 1 for Canberra's W-League semi final). In September 2017, Ellie left Canberra United, joining the Western Sydney Wanderers so that she could continue her AFLW career. She continued to be a dual athlete for the 2018 AFLW season, juggling commitments to both sports and all the while holding up a job as a physiotherapist. She made the decision to focus on AFLW for the 2019 season in which she finished third in the Giants' Best and Fairest award. In season 2019/20, Ellie announced her comeback to the W-League and a tilt at the Matildas, signing with Sydney FC. She made an immediate impact, playing every minute across the successful season in which they made it to but lost out in the Grand Final. Ellie also was retained by the Giants AFLW, but upon juggling soccer commitments, was only able to play in the round 1
