Ellia Green OAM

Ellia Green OAM is a professional rugby union player and represents Australia in Rugby Sevens. She is an Olympic Gold Medallist as a member of Australia’s victorious Rugby Sevens team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. She continues to represent Australia in the Sevens World Series.Born in Suva, Fiji, Ellia moved to Australia's Central Coast at the age of five with her adoptive parents. She started Little Athletics at the age of six and spent 10 years in athletics, representing Australia in the 100m, 200m and long jump at the World School Games in Qatar in 2009. She was recruited by the Australian Rugby Sevens program after attending a Pathway to Gold Talent ID camp in Melbourne in 2012.Ellia gained international notoriety when scoring an astonishing 80-metre try against Canada during a three-match exhibition series at the Gold Coast Sevens in 2014. She has tallied an exceptional 98 tries on the World Rugby Sevens Series circuit, becoming one of the women’s game’s biggest names thanks to her blend of power, pace and scoring potency.Following an ACL reconstruction in 2017, Ellia made a stunning return to the sport, scoring six tries in the Sydney leg of the 2017/2018 HSBC Sevens World Series, and four tries during the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where Australia were Silver Medallists.In July 2018, Ellia was announced as a National Champion for UN Women National Committee Australia. She is also an ambassador for Adopt Change, helping to ensure all children have access to a safe, nurturing and permanent family home and that families are well supported.Ellia was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2017 along with her 2016 Olympic Games team mates.Ellia has joined the Minerva Network to learn how to navigate a career in and after sport with confidence and to engage with people from different professions.
