Abbey Willcox

Born and raised in the central coast of NSW, Abbey grew up in elite gymnastics, starting at the age of 3 until she retired at 16 years old due to burn out.

When she was 16, Abbey took family holidays skiing at Perisher, and on one trip in 2013, she took a trampoline class where she was spotted and recruited to try Aerial Skiing. After experiencing severe burnout from gymnastics, she decided to take a year off from sport at age 17. At age 18, she started her journey in Aerial Skiing. Training for 3 years, Abbey competed in her first World Cup in 2018, and then continued competing on the world cup tour circuit each year.

In 2020, Abbey made her first World cup podium in Deer Valley, Utah where she won Bronze, and finished ranked 7th overall in the world that year. As momentum was building, her skills were progressing and results were getting higher – she shattered her leg in 2021 which took her out for the rest of the season.

After missing out on the 2022 Olympics for both injury and non-selection, Abbey decided to shift her focus onto her career outside of sport with her Bachelor of Business. After doing work experience at the Brisbane Broncos, she landed a role as a Marketing and Game Day Coordinator. With eyes still set on the 2026 Winter Olympics, Abbey drives for mental health awareness, and a balanced life with elite sport. Showing that athletes are more than just their sport, and being allowed to follow their passions outside of that.
