This Summer of Cricket is about to ignite. Kicking off with a T20 series against New Zealand in Mackay and building up to the historic day/night Ashes Test against England starting January 30 at the MCG, this action-packed season highlights the incredible progress of women’s cricket. Progress that includes 80,000 registered participants, many household names and heroes and the highest paid women athletes in Australian sport.

It’s a perfect opportunity to honour the dedication of players and to celebrate the bright future of the sport. Across a sensational summer of cricket, we’ll be sharing a series of stories, featuring inspiring role models and leaders, the professionalisation of women’s cricket, cricket’s multicultural inclusivity, and the incredible history of this sport as we embrace the new era.  We kick off this series by sharing the story of Alyssa Healy, Australian Women’s Cricket Captain.

Smashing boundaries and driving change.

Alyssa Healy’s rise from a determined cricketer to the captain of the Australian women’s cricket team is a journey filled with grit and determination. Her path has been anything but straightforward, marked by her commitment to breaking new ground in a sport traditionally dominated by men.

Along the way, she’s not only made a name for herself but set new benchmarks for what women can achieve in cricket. And her story is a testament to the power of dedication and hard work, motivating countless young women to chase their dreams.

Alyssa’s impact extends beyond the cricket field, in part thanks to her involvement with the Minerva Network. Under the guidance of Christine McLoughlin AM, Chairman and Co-Founder of Minerva, Alyssa has seen the profound effect of strong support systems on emerging female athletes.

“Christine’s mentorship has been pivotal in my journey. Through the Minerva Network, I’ve seen firsthand the difference that dedicated support can make in the lives of emerging female athletes. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today without her support,” Alyssa notes.

“It’s incredible to witness the growth and success of those who receive the right encouragement and resources at the right time."

Alyssa’s inspiring journey is also supported by her husband Mitch Starc, a champion cricketer and Minerva ambassador. Together, they form a dynamic duo in cricket, championing the role of women in sports and raising the profile of female athletes.

Mitch’s support amplifies Alyssa’s efforts, and their combined advocacy highlights the importance of mentorship and the push for greater visibility for female athletes.

Alyssa adds, “Having Mitch as a partner means I have someone who truly understands the challenges and triumphs of a sporting career. Together, we’re dedicated to opening doors and breaking down barriers for women in cricket.”

With every match and milestone, we’re reminded of how far women’s cricket has come and how much further it can go.

Minerva will be with them every step of the way.

Minerva encourages our network and supporters to join in the excitement at matches across the summer – culminating in a historic Ashes Test at the MCG from 30.
