Led by Minerva Victoria Co-Chapter Leads, Sally Macindoe and Diane Outhred, Minerva was fortunate to be in attendance at the historic first-ever Day/Night Women's Ashes Test match at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which also marked the prestigious 90th Anniversary match, with thanks to Nick Hockley and his team at Cricket Australia. This event not only celebrated the rich history of cricket in Australia but also underscored the power of inclusion, mentorship, and leadership in sport.
Our Minerva network had the privilege of witnessing history unfold at the home of Australian sport while engaging in meaningful conversations about the future of women’s professional sports. These moments serve as an inspiration for the next generation of athletes and leaders, reinforcing Minerva’s commitment to fostering opportunities and pathways for women in sport and business.
Day 2 of the Test match was all about showcasing female athletes, with a number of Minerva and other athletes actively involved in and around the game. A standout moment was Annabel Sutherland becoming the first woman to hit a Test hundred at the MCG. Minerva Athlete Al Viney was interviewed on the big screen emphasising the importance of visibility and representation for women in sport.
A highlight of the event was the inclusion of Minerva Chairman and Co-Founder, Christine McLoughlin AM, and Minerva QLD Co-Chapter Lead, Ann Sherry AO as guest panel speakers on ‘Business Networks Leading the Way.’ Christine shared her invaluable insights into the significance of mentorship, drawing from her experience guiding two of Australia’s women’s cricket captains – Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy. The panel discussion shed light on how the Minerva Network continues to support the professional development of sportswomen, equipping them with the leadership, resilience, and networks necessary to thrive both on and off the field.
Minerva also celebrates the remarkable achievement of Minerva WA Co-Chapter Lead, Christina Matthews AM, on her induction into the Cricket Australia Hall of Fame. Christina's contributions to Australian cricket, both on and off the field, have been truly outstanding, and her recognition is a testament to her dedication and impact on the sport.
Additionally, Minerva was proud to support the historic Afghanistan Women’s cricket match against Cricket Without Borders, played at The Junction prior to the Test match. This groundbreaking event highlighted the resilience and determination of Afghan women in sport and reinforced the importance of providing opportunities for female athletes worldwide.
Minerva deeply appreciates Cricket Australia’s ongoing commitment to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in sport. Through such partnerships, we continue to break barriers and build a stronger future for women’s sport in Australia.
We look forward to further collaboration and more opportunities to empower the incredible athletes and leaders within the Minerva community.
