"Sport has taught me that everything happens for a reason. Every challenge, physical or mental, has shaped me, strengthened my mindset, and prepared me for what comes next, both in sport and in life."

Nat Wright is a former Wallaroo and Queensland Reds rugby player who is building impact both on and off the field. We asked Nat about resilience, starting her first graduate role, and how she’s creating opportunities for the next generation.

Q: Who inspires you?

My parents inspire me most because they truly practice what they preach. They are incredibly hardworking, always striving to be better each day, and endlessly supportive in everything they do.

Q: What are you proud of this month?

I’m proud to have started my first graduate job out of university this month.

Q: What career or venture are you currently pursuing away from your sport?

Away from sport, I am pursuing a career as an accredited exercise physiologist at a clinic called Perform Well. I have also co-founded a not-for-profit girls’ rugby academy, the Red Hot Chilli Stepper Academy, and founded the Red Hot Chilli Steppers, an all-ginger rugby team.

Q: What does being part of a network of high-performing sportswomen give you?

The network of high-performing women was really beneficial in helping me find connections and advice from women who had already navigated things I was trying to work through myself. It was also really cool to be surrounded by, and look up to, women who have achieved things I hope to achieve one day.

Q: What is a lesson sport has taught you that has helped outside of it?

Sport has taught me resilience, particularly in dealing with injuries and when things do not go to plan. Non-selection, setbacks, and injuries are all part of the journey. It has reminded me to keep the reasons I started playing, friendship, travel, competition, and enjoyment, at the forefront of every decision. Most importantly, sport has taught me that everything happens for a reason. Every challenge, physical or mental, has shaped me, strengthened my mindset, and prepared me for what comes next, both in sport and in life.

Q: What are you a little bit obsessed with at the moment?

I’m currently focused on leaning into discomfort and choosing the scarier option instead of defaulting to what’s familiar. I’m also trying to be a sponge in all areas of life by listening more than I talk.

Q: How has Minerva Network and its mentorship supported your journey beyond sport?

Minerva provided me with valuable connections, including my mentor, who was able to share personal experiences and perspectives on how to best navigate different situations that came up over the past couple of years.
