Captained by long time Minerva Athlete Alyssa Healy, the Australian women’s cricket team has retained the Ashes in a thrilling contest hailed as the greatest women’s series of all time.

England Captain Heather Knight was gracious in defeat, proclaiming, “It’s got to be the best series ever in women’s cricket.”

Winning the second one day international with a thrilling last-ball victory, the Aussie women take an unbeatable 8 – 6 series lead into the final ODI, securing the Ashes for Australia.

Minerva Athlete Alyssa Healy captained the side throughout the series, taking over the helm from fellow Minerva Athlete Meg Lanning who was ruled for medical reasons. Incredibly, Alyssa has nursed two fractured fingers throughout, showing her grit in the Test where she scored a half century to help set England a record run chase.

After the win, Alyssa said, "We pride ourselves on winning key moments. The bowlers were set in their plan in the end for which I’m grateful. We still haven’t played our best cricket. We came here to win the Ashes and we’ve done that, it’s exciting and congratulations to the group for getting it done."

Alyssa has been a Minerva Athlete since 2018, and is currently mentored by Minerva Chair Christine McLoughlin.
