Jane Menzies

Jane Menzies is a commercial barrister practising in Brisbane.  Jane's practice has a focus on infrastructure, resources, construction, contract, tort and trade practices.  She has acted for clients in major disputes including the class action resulting from the 2011 floods in south-east Queensland, and two of the first actions brought under Queensland’s class action regime.  Jane has also worked on commissions of inquiry at the Commonwealth and State levels and appeared as Counsel Assisting in the Paradise Dam Commission of Inquiry in 2020. 

 

Jane is an accomplished sportswoman having played top domestic level netball for five seasons; first with the Queensland Firebirds and then the Hunter Jaegers. She represented Queensland and New South Wales in netball at junior and open levels between 1999 and 2008.  Jane enjoyed leadership roles in those teams, including as captain of the Hunter Jaegers in 2007.  While playing semi-professional netball, Jane completed her Bachelor of Engineering and then worked as an Civil Engineer in onsite construction, consultancy and project management. 

 

Jane is a university medallist in law and received first class honours in her law and engineering degrees.  Jane was formerly associate at the High Court of Australia to the Hon Justice (now Chief Justice) Susan Kiefel AC.  She also worked as associate in the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia (now the Federal Circuit Court) to Judge Purdon-Sully.
